With a decline in skateboarding in Hawkes Bay in the early 90's, Chey moved to Auckland to pursue the culture he was into. This move ended up with him becoming one of New Zealand's most prolific skateboarders, and securing his place in NZ's street culture where he has formed relationships with many of NZ's leading musicians, artists, and designers.
When it comes to board control and style ask any skateboarder and you're guaranteed to hear the name Chey Ataria. Several times Chey was NZ's national champ, and winning X-Air events regularly it's no surprise he has been involved with many companies and had a wealth of sponsorship. Namely an international contract with DVS Shoes, several pro-model decks with Australasia's largest skateboard companies boom strobe XEN , corporate sponsorship with Vodafone, and of course Huffer since their inception.

Spending years in the fashion environment with 8 years in retail, witnessing the customers spending habits at this all important touch point, culminated in Chey launching ABC in 2000 with a clean simple range styled by himself. The range had artwork supplied by several of NZ's leading designers. The brand proved popular amongst inner city and provincial skateboarders, and street savvy customers. Chey has consistently delivered new and exciting product to stores until recently, starting at Huffer in 2005 he put the range on ice while negotiating ABC's future within the Huffer family.
